Christopher Whitby

BIOGRAPHY

Christopher Whitby lives in a small village west of Leicester. After
some years as an English teacher while completing his PhD thesis on the
Renaissance luminary John Dee (published 1988, reprinted RKP 2013 and
2014), he became an advertising and brochure copywriter and then started
his own graphic design company.

After early success in a BBC Radio 4 competition, he developed a strong
interest in the sonnet form, with subsequent work appearing in such
places as 14 by 14, Lucid Rhythms, The Chimaera, Blood Lines (anthology)
and Measure. 'Check Up' was shortlisted for the Howard Nemerov Sonnet
Award 2009. He has a particular interest in the sonnet as dramatic
monologue, written primarily to be performed - see link below.
His first collection In Small Measure was published in 2011.

Short story writing is a new direction, but one that is beginning to
offer similar attractions to a well crafted sonnet.
