The Tortoise and the Hare

The Hare was once boasting of his speed before the other animals. "I have never yet been beaten," said he, "when I put forth my full speed. I challenge any one here to race with me."

The Tortoise said quietly, "I accept your challenge."

"That is a good joke," said the Hare; "I could dance round you all the way."

"Keep your boasting till you've won," answered the Tortoise. "Shall we race?"

So a course was fixed and a start was made. The Hare darted almost out of sight at once, but soon stopped and, to show his contempt for the Tortoise, lay down to have a nap. The Tortoise plodded on and plodded on, and when the Hare awoke from his nap, he saw the Tortoise just near the winning-post and could not run up in time to save the race.

Then the Tortoise said: "Slow but steady progress wins the race."

We need to know that the humility and the respect are very important in life.
This fable is so amazing because this show us that the effor that everybody do everyday can give us a better results in a future.
No matter what the people say if all of us believe in ourselves
I think that the author put the animals like major characters to understand better the history
The moral from the webside teach us to focusing in our objectives is the best way to achieve success

I read this story many many times before. But this time, I read an English version, and have some questions that I havent thought of before. First of all, the hare raised a challenge, yes, it is proud of its speed to run, but, why did the tortoise accept the challenge, what target did it aim at to run with the hare? Did it already think that it would win the race? The second thing I felt the wise of Aesop is, at the end of the story, the tortoise had not reached the winning post yet when the hare woke up but just near the winning post, and its still too late for the hare to save the race. What would it be in real life? This ending inspires me to think about timing, and would something too late even though the final did not yet come?
