The Ant and the Grasshopper

In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"

"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and recommend you to do the same."

"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper; "We have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil.

When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger - while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew: It is best to prepare for days of need.

This story is about telling people to prepare for the future. Its a good story for children. However, in a real life, the things are not undergoing the same as we thought. Who know the future? In addition, who is sure that be prepared for the future is always a good one? For example, the ants on the story lay up food for the winter, if a storm, hurricane, or flood come before the winter...what will go on. I havent said prepare is not good, but I want to say that prepare food for future is not enough. We need to save our soul for the future. If you want to save our life for the future, you need to share what you have now for others in your neighbor, or your community... Bach Phung - Vietnamese Phoenix

This is a very simple story telling about the ant want to have a warm and rich winter. It prepared enough food before winter. However the grasshopper was hopping, chirping and singing in the summer. When the winter came the Grasshopper starved because it cannot find any food in the cold winter. The story said we have to prepare for the future.

It was a good story for childrens and for other adults like me. The story gives you good advice, like for example: It is best to prepare for days of need, in other words you dont know what is going to hapenned if you dont prepare yourself in other times, and for me that was a good advice for children or for adults.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself! MODERN VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks hes a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving. CBS, NBC, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing "Its Not Easy Being Green." Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ants house where the news stations film the group singing "We shall overcome." Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshoppers sake. Tom Daschle & Walter Mondale exclaim in an interview with Peter Jennings that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share." Finally, the EEOC drafts the "Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act," retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government. Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses the case. The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ants food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ants old house, crumbles around him because he doesnt maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood. MORAL OF THE STORY: demand the facts before you act

This story is so good story. I think this is moral of my ideal life. However, my character is near to the Grasshopper so I envy guys who have the Ants character. When I was child I read this story. At that time I thought I will be the Ant but I think Grasshopper is not bad now. Maybe my opinion about the Grasshopper was changing.

o I think is a good story for kids basically because they need to learn this for the future o If kids doesn’t learn this at a small age its very hard they can do it at an older age o It’s also a good lesson for people who aren’t children o The moral of the fable is something you must have present everyday o The fable also teaches you that don’t wait for things to happen if you can prevent them o The fable is very believable to happen

The story is so great! and has a perfect message... I think this is more than a short story, because is a perfect lesson for people who are not careful about their future. I can compare this story with real life, because people who work hard when are young can be prepare to get a good life in the future. You dont know what is going to happend if you dont prepare yourself for the future. We never come back to the past, so we have to be responsible and always think in ourselves and family.

I think this storys moral is very important for our life.We also have a proverb in Japan."You should bring a stick before you fall down." I think it is better to do anything in advance for the future,if it possible. But I also think it is difficult in actuality. It might be happen unexpected thing.
