The Miser

A miser sold all that he had and bought a lump of gold, which he buried in a hole in the ground by the side of an old wall and went to look at daily. One of his workmen observed his frequent visits to the spot and decided to watch his movements. He soon discovered the secret of the hidden treasure, and digging down, came to the lump of gold, and stole it. The Miser, on his next visit, found the hole empty and began to tear his hair and to make loud lamentations. A neighbor, seeing him overcome with grief and learning the cause, said, "Pray do not grieve so; but go and take a stone, and place it in the hole, and fancy that the gold is still lying there. It will do you quite the same service; for when the gold was there, you had it not, as you did not make the slightest use of it."

Actually, money is a valueless thing because it is just the paper or coin. Since human accepts that it is a valuable thing, it is. In my opinion, everything is a valuable thing if it makes me happy, satisfied and comfortable, such as playing basketball. When I am playing basketball, I feel happy because I like it. Therefore, basketball is valuable for me.

i liked it a lot because if you have something like a lump of gold you would keep it safe and if you lost it you would be sad and if some one said dont worry then you wouldnt be as sad but the man who had the gold had nothing else because he had to sell everything he had so he lost all he had

Theres a moral to this story. Most people have greed. So, they hide their treasures. But some people lost their money or treasure like this story. This story describes peoples greed very well. I like "The Miser" story.

In our society the money is very important, having that great house or that car, but what really matters is how we use it; not taking only about money, talking about our attitude and our beliefs.

I think it is an excelent story. It shows that it doesnt matter having all the goods in the world if we dont use them in favor of others. We must make use of the goods which we are blessed with, otherwise itd be better not to have them at all. Gifts are not meant for hiding, theyre for helping others.

Everything has its worth. If you dont use it, its nothing for you, as a lump of gold is equal to a stone for the miser. People are the same, not only thing. If you dont use yourself, you are not different from a plaster figure. Maybe you should fix yourself always. Someday, you will be able to find your hidden value, and everybody will recognize your ability.

I think, “THE MISER” fable is a perfect example of some people do. People keep things that have value for them, but if you never use this things, what kind of value is it?. Maybe all things does not have value if you never use it or sometimes people only see the appearance of the things and never think if these things are really important and have use.

I think this story is telling about money. These days almost everybody likes money and seeks it. But some of them even dont know how to use money.. just focus on getting more money. We should spend money in proper way. As this story said, to this miser his gold is same as the stone. He just owes it, doesnt use it. If someone has a lot of money, but he wouldt want to spend it, I think its not worty.

This story manage to express present day of the U.S.A. It taught me that how different between "to be" and "to do." It is easy to just being but it will be total nonsense without we work harder for keeping "to be." Also, as of being born we have a diversity of talent. If we have no talent for something, we just try harder. So we can make a go to some extent. Ofcourse, there is a limit. But in this story, it does not teach me to abandon. Sometime it is important to give up. To evaluate our limited and it will be connected to change our course of life at the early stage.

Its about a guy who sells all of his belongings for a lump of gold then he burries it in the ground. Later he finds out that some guy stole it so he got advice, which was just put a rock in the hole it will do the same thing.

Money is only worth something if you use it wisely on yourself and others, but it shows that some people have money for no reason. It is kind of confusing, but it also takes some thinking to understand it.

I belive this story sets a good example. Most people who have wealth are greedy and they just let it sit there. They dont really pay that much attention intil one day its gone. Well if you have something your should use it and, if your not going use it give it to somebody who will.

I think that it has to deal with God because the person who said to the guy replace it with a stone. Most believe because you only hear about that type of talk most of the time when it has to do with God. Or they are refering to Gods ways.

This is a good fable too. Basically all this guy does is check on the gold and doesnt do anything with it. Then once it was gone he didnt know what to do with out it. I agree with the neighbor because he wasnt doing anything with it.

This miser buys gold and puts it in hole and just looks at it and then it finally gets stolen and he notices how much he wanted it and if you have something you dont use you dont know how much you need it until its gone.
