study rooms
The Study Rooms at East of the Web are a place where teachers can create custom word list and quiz-based games for their students. You can create your own word lists for your students or use a growing list of word lists that come with your study room. The study rooms also provide an extensive set of reports so students and teachers can monitor progress.

Setting up a study room

Setting up a study room simple. First, you must create a new study room. This can be done here:

Once you have created the new study room, you will be logged in - or you can come back later and log in using your new study room name, user name and password.

After you have created the new study room, you can log in here:

Help with using the study rooms - how to add word lists and games, how to give access to your students - is available when you are logged in.

The following games are available for use in the study rooms:

Pit your word knowledge against the clock in this game of definitions and deception.
Race against time to uncover hidden words and titles.
Pit your knowledge against the clock in this quiz-based game.
Find words hidden in a grid of letters.
Find and 'pop' as many words as you can in the letter grid before your time runs out.

other features for teachers
For the convenience of students, double clicking on any word in a story will bring up a dictionary definition along with an audio pronunciation of the word.

We are in the process of building up an online resource of teaching materials for use with short stories. Materials include comprehension questions and ideas for discussion or accompanying activities and games. All materials are produced by qualified teachers.

Materials are presented with a suggested age range for those studying English as a first language and an indication of the language level for those studying English as an additional language. It is also envisaged that more specific material aimed at particular examinations will be made available in the future.

To access the materials, use the list above or click on the 'teaching materials' link, which can be found at the top of each story page.

If you are interested in sharing materials, please contact us here.
